Tear propagation testing is carried out on soft films and very flexible elastomers where the tensile test does not produce any product differentiation.
The previously notched samples are pulled apart from one another and the force required to do so is recorded. This is highly dependent on the angle at which they are pulled apart.
Results of the test method:
Tear propagation resistance [N/mm thickness of test piece]
